What Gives You Courage?

Courage is the ability to overcome fear in dangerous situations. It is the ability to experience fear and yet, to take a step into the unknown despite the fear. A lot of courage is necessary to – for example – start a new Waldorf School in Irak. A teacher told me lately that she had to muster all her courage to chair her first parent evening. At this time of year, our kindergarteners also have to muster courage to jump across the blazing St. John's fire.

Florian Osswald speaks in his lecture at the World Teachers' Conference about an “entrepreneurial risk”, referring to school communities “in which the strength of the individual soul and the courage to encounter the other, lives.”

 

The editors of "Waldorf Resources" approached the World Teachers' Conference 2016 with the question “What gives you courage?” We asked the participants to write their answers to this question on origami objects and displayed them for everyone to see. “Take courage!” we said and they mustered their courage and gave us the following beautiful answers:
